[MARINE] MOUCHEZ (Ernest, Rear Admiral). Autograph letter signed, on headed paper from the office of the Director of the Paris Observatory, January 11, 1884: "Sir, I learn that the government is still seriously considering the question of Ckeik Saïd. Charged in 1869 by the Minister of the Navy, Admiral Rigaud de Genouilly, to go and study this affair on the spot, I sent a complete report which says that we cannot be found at the Navy. Would you be so kind as to tell M. the Minister of Foreign Affairs that if he wishes to be fully informed of the Sheikh Said matter, I am at his disposal, and that in a 10-minute audience he will be perfectly informed. The summary of my opinion is that in all respects it would be very fortunate for us if we were to hand this affair over to the Germans. It would be detestable for us.
