He is world-renowned for his wooden toys - monkeys, elephants and royal guards - which combine formal simplicity with playful poetry. His style evolved from Art Nouveau to a warm functionalism, epitomized by his famous Grand Prix housewife. Close to the great names of Scandinavian design, such as Børge Mogensen, Finn Juhl, Alvar Aalto and Fritz Hansen, he embodies a humanist and accessible vision of design.
