NOTICE
François Arnal (1924-2012) is a protean French artist, painter, sculptor and designer, one of the leading figures of his generation. Born in La Valette-du-Var, after the war he took part in the lyrical abstraction and informal art movements, rubbing shoulders with artists such as Pierre Dmitrienko and Serge Rezvani. He broke new ground in the 60s with his "Bombardements" series, in which he spray-painted the outlines of objects, and in 1968 founded Atelier A to bring art and design closer together. His work, rich in color, texture and formal experimentation, explores sculpture as well as utilitarian objects, drawing and writing, always in a quest for renewal. Arnal is renowned for his plastic freedom, his refusal of strict categories and his important contribution to abstract art, Informel, object design and contemporary art.
