NOTICE
A major figure in contemporary Iranian art, Charles Hossein Zenderoudi (b. 1937, Tehran) is one of the founders of the Saqqakhaneh movement, at the crossroads of calligraphy, Shiite spirituality and Western modernity. Living in Paris since the 1960s, he has developed a body of work between abstraction, symbolism and writing, echoing the work of Pierre Soulages and Cy Twombly, as well as compatriots Parviz Tanavoli, Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, Reza Derakshani and Bahman Mohasses. His compositions blend geometric rigor with traditional Persian motifs. Present in the world's leading museums, Zenderoudi is a key figure in contemporary Middle Eastern painting.
