NOTICE Bengt Lindström (1925-2008) is a Swedish artist whose work is characterized by an explosive palette, distorted faces, mythological figures and primitive references inspired by Sami culture, shamanism and northern Scandinavia. A student of Isaac Grünewald in Stockholm, then André Lhote and Fernand Léger in Paris, he is often associated with the CoBrA movement (Asger Jorn, Karel Appel) and the Nouvelle Figuration, while claiming the influence of Expressionist painters such as Edvard Munch, Emil Nolde and James Ensor. His style combines abstract expressionism, wild figuration and symbolism, with a deliberately hieratic use of color and texture. He has worked in painting, lithography, engraving, sculpture and monumental public commissions. Bengt Lindström remains a benchmark in contemporary Nordic art for his mystical transport, gestural strength and ability to blend myth and modernity.
