NOTICE
Bengt Lindström (1925-2008), a major Swedish artist of the post-war period, combines in his paintings, engravings and sculptures an expressive force derived from Nordic mythologies, Sami culture and the wilderness of Lapland. Trained in Stockholm (with Isaac Grünewald), Copenhagen and Chicago, then in Paris in the studios of Fernand Léger and André Lhote, he developed a highly colorful style of painting, close in its chromatic boldness and expressive forms to the artists of the CoBrA movement (such as Asger Jorn and Karel Appel), but also to the Nordic artists Emil Nolde, Edvard Munch and James Ensor. His works, with their tormented figuration of faces, gods, masks and monsters, offer a dense, tactile "paste" style, full of substance and contrast.
