NOTICE
Jean Hélion (1904-1987) is a key figure in modern art, having traversed - and often thwarted - the great debates of the XXᵉ century between geometric abstraction and figuration. Initially a follower of rigorous forms, straight lines and minimalist flat tints close to Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg or Herbin, he joined the Abstraction-Création group. But by the end of the 1930s, he had broken away from pure abstraction to return to the figure: figures, nudes, street scenes, still lifes and landscapes. This also brought him closer to Jean Arp, Joaquín Torres García, Léon Tutundjian and Fernand Léger. Marked by a trajectory of constant experimentation, Hélion's painting is both formal and sensitive, driven by rhythm, color and drawing, and always striving for a visible humanism.
