Alfred CASILE (1848-1909) - Lot 203
Alfred CASILE (1848-1909) Seaside view at low tide, 1882 Oil on canvas Signed and dated lower right 64.5 x 41 cm (Slightly missing) NOTICE Alfred Casile (1848-1909), born in Marseille, was a French painter renowned for his atmospheric landscapes and seascapes. Trained at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille, he then refined his technique with Antoine Guillemet, and worked alongside major figures such as Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley and Claude Monet, as well as the precursors of Impressionism such as Boudin and Jongkind. His paintings combine naturalism and Impressionism: soft lights, changing skies, light palettes blending grays, ochres and blues. After a stay in Belgium at the turn of the century, he returned to the Midi, but without fully associating himself with the Provencal School, his sensibility oscillating between Mediterranean clarity and Nordic nuance. Today, Casile's works can be found in numerous museums, including those in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Grenoble and Béziers.
