Gustave CARIOT (1872-1950) - Lot 199
Gustave CARIOT (1872-1950) Still life with flowering vases, 1947 Oil on isorel Monogrammed "G.C." and dated lower right 14 x 21 cm (Nail indentations around the edges) This work will be included in the catalog raisonné of Gustave Cariot, currently being compiled by Norbert and Tess Saffar. NOTICE A French landscape painter belonging to the Neo-Impressionist movement, Gustave Cariot (1872-1950) was distinguished by his remarkable mastery of light and chromatic vibrations. Close in spirit to the works of Maximilien Luce and Henri Le Sidaner, he was a painter of light and nature, somewhere between pointillism and intimate symbolism. His landscapes, often produced in series, capture seasonal variations with great sensitivity. Present in several French museums, Cariot is today sought after by lovers of Post-Impressionist art and turn-of-the-20th-century French painting.
