Jules LELLOUCHE (1903-1963) - Lot 177
Jules LELLOUCHE (1903-1963) Canal de la Goulette, Tunisia Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. 46 x 54 cm (Crackles, small chips and small repaints in the sky at the upper edge) Appraiser: Cabinet CHANOIT NOTICE Jules Lellouche (1903-1963) shares strong artistic affinities with such figures of the Tunis School as Pierre Boucherle, Moses Levy, Antonio Corpora, Yahia Turki and Ammar Farhat, all of whom were sensitive to the play of Mediterranean light, intense colors and poetic figuration. He is also close to Abdelaziz Gorgi, Edgard Naccache, Hatim El Mekki, Ali Bellagha and Hédi Turki, all of whom explore, in their own way, landscapes, scenes of everyday Tunisian life, nudes and the visual identity of the Maghreb. In a broader context, his work resonates with Albert Marquet's light on water, with Édouard Vuillard and Henri Lebasque's interiors, and with the European Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, both in terms of palette and treatment of motif.
