NOTICE Lev Tchistovsky (1902-1969) was a Russian-born painter who trained at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts before moving to France in the 1920s. Close to the academic aesthetic, his portraits, still lifes and female nudes are characterized by gentleness and precision, in the realist tradition. His work, often compared to that of his Russian contemporaries based in Paris, such as Konstantin Somov and Alexandre Iacovleff, appealed to lovers of classical figurative art. An active artist in Montparnasse, he participated fully in the Parisian artistic effervescence of the interwar period.
