Cyprien ALFRED-DUPRAT (1876-1933) View of a mountain village, 1915 Watercolor or gouache and pencil on paper Signed and dated "December 21, 1915" lower left 27 x 37 cm (view) Framed under glass NOTICE Cyprien Alfred-Duprat (1876-1933) was a Bordeaux architect trained by his father Bertrand Alfred-Duprat, whose work combined architecture, drawing, engraving and urban planning in styles that blended eclecticism, historicism and Art Nouveau. He is best known for projects such as the Hôtel Schwabe in Bordeaux (1908) and the Maison cantonale in La Bastide, as well as for his illustrations and watercolors influenced by Alphonse Mucha. At the dawn of the XXᵉ century, he took part in several major urban modernization projects, designing ambitious projects for automobile traffic or public spaces, and asserting an aesthetic oriented towards modernity. His work goes beyond simple construction to include debates on urban hygiene, mobility, landscaping and the vision of an evolving city. His often contrasting work brings together architecture, decorative arts, urban planning, modernism and a commitment to a more functional and aesthetic city.
