Cyprien ALFRED-DUPRAT (1876-1933) - Lot 165
Cyprien ALFRED-DUPRAT (1876-1933) Cairo, 1912 Watercolor or gouache and pencil on paper Signed lower right and dated "Mars 1912" lower left 34.5 x 26.5 cm (view) Framed under glass NOTICE Cyprien Alfred-Duprat (1876-1933), an architect and watercolorist trained in Bordeaux, depicted numerous cityscapes, including Cairo, with precision and sensitivity, following in the footsteps of Orientalist artists at the turn of the XXᵉ century. His view of colonial architecture and street scenes in Egypt dialogues with the works of painters such as Étienne Dinet, Jean-Léon Gérôme, Eugène Fromentin and Prosper Marilhat, who also captured the atmosphere of the Arab world. In his drawings and watercolors, Alfred-Duprat combines architectural rigor with a fascination for oriental light, in a spirit akin to academic orientalism. Today, his work appeals to collectors of Egyptian views, colonial architecture and Orientalist works.
