NOTICE :
Ernest Pignon-Ernest, born in Nice in 1942, is a French visual artist who has made the street his studio: a precursor of street-art and committed urban art, since the 60s he has been taking over walls, staircases and sites steeped in memory with large-format drawings, collages and silkscreens. His work blends the poetic, the political, the anthropological and the event-driven: he questions injustices (immigration, war, apartheid, repression), the figures of poets and writers (Rimbaud, Pasolini, etc.) and recalls myths, sacred places and buried histories. His site-specific interventions, often nocturnal and ephemeral, seek to catch the eye of passers-by and awaken the memory of places. He lives and works in Paris, where his demanding drawing style (charcoal, black stone) and fragile paper medium are combined with art history (classical references, mythology, religion, sacred iconography).
