Ernest PIGNON-ERNEST (b. 1942) Study - Louise Michelle, 2008 Mixed media on paper Signed, dated and annotated "étude pour Louise Michelle fresque collège René Cassin". Sheet size: 31x 25 cm (Stains) PROVENANCE: Preparatory study for the fresco at Levens-Tourette middle school (Alpes-Maritimes) carried out as part of the "1% cultural" project. French private collection. NOTICE : Ernest Pignon-Ernest (b. 1942, Nice) is a French visual artist whose poetic, committed work is a dialogue between drawing, memory and urban space. A precursor of urban art, he uses mixed techniques - black stone, charcoal, notched erasers, silkscreen - often inserted on fragile paper to create life-size human figures that haunt walls, alleyways or buildings steeped in history. His work resonates with that of Bacon, El Greco, Picasso, and the poets Rimbaud, Pasolini and Neruda: he blends mythology, politics, history and the social subject, questioning presence, disappearance and the sacred. Each intervention is conceived in situ: the site becomes both material and setting, a signpost for events, silences and buried memories. Using a mixed media technique on paper, her strength lies in the delicate balance between permanence and ephemerality, testimony and the poetics of the body.
