NOTICE :
Ernest Pignon-Ernest (b. 1942, Nice) is a French visual artist and precursor of urban art, whose approach combines drawing, poetry and civic engagement. Since the 1960s, he has taken to the streets, walls and public squares as sites for in situ interventions, where he glues or pastes/colors life-size human figures, often inspired by poets and myths, to reactivate historical, political and social memory. Among his tutelary figures, Robert Desnos occupies a central place: Pignon-Ernest created Étude pour Desnos in 2000, and more broadly places the poet in a cycle of "apparitions" that make the invisible visible, blending poetic presence and committed breath. His work is characterized by a strong symbolic, mythological and poetic dimension, and by the expressive use of charcoal, black stone, fragile paper or collage, ephemeral works in which disappearance is part of the purpose.
