Ch. Leroux (active in the 1850s) - Lot 153
Ch. Leroux (active in the 1850s) Lot of approx. 83 drawings including 2 tracings. Appraiser : Cabinet de BAYSER PROVENANCE: Paris private collection, by descent to the current owner NOTICE A French landscape painter active in the 1850s, Charles Le Roux (1814-1895) followed in the footsteps of the Barbizon School, alongside Corot, Daubigny, Jules Dupré, Théodore Rousseau and Diaz de la Peña. A friend of Gustave Doré and Félix Ziem, he distinguished himself with views of the Loire, marshes and undergrowth bathed in subtle light, in a naturalist and poetic vein. Regularly exhibited at the Salon from 1834 onwards, he was one of the most prominent regional painters of his time, at the crossroads of Romanticism and Realism. His landscapes, often painted in the Vendée, Brittany or the southern Loire regions, appeal to 19th-century art lovers today.
