Buwa SHETE (India, 1960) Two-figure composition Oil on canvas Unsigned Size (view) 60 x 60 cm Framed Appraiser : Cabinet PORTIER associés NOTICE Buwa Shete, born in 1960 in Maharashtra, is a contemporary Indian painter who graduated in 1983 in applied arts from the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya in Pune. He initially worked as an art director and illustrator in advertising agencies while pursuing his artistic practice, but turned resolutely to painting after winning recognition at the National Exhibition of Young Painters (Calcutta), organized by M. F. Hussain. His style is characterized by dreamlike compositions, often centered on themes of the bond between child and mother or father, or rural figures, treated with vivid colors. Notable exhibitions include solo shows at the Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai, 1999), the Nehru Centre Art Gallery (Mumbai, 2003) and in Singapore (2002), as well as group shows at the Y.B. Chavan Gallery in Mumbai and the Abita Art Gallery in Delhi. In 1997, he received the London International Award for a calendar entitled "Philosophy by Various Saints".
