TIBET - Lot 127
TIBET Thangka depicting deities Tempera on canvas 74 x 47 cm Framed under glass Same provenance as the tanghka presented in our January 30, 2025 sale, depicting mahasiddha Kukuripa, Nagpo Dorje, Nagpo Dorje, Panchen Sangye Yeshe invoking Vajrasattva, Chilbu in yabyum with a dakini and Nalanda. NOTICE Tibetan thangka are an invaluable medium for Buddhist religious painting, depicting a complex pantheon of deities, enlightened masters and protective figures. Among the most common are Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezi), bodhisattva of compassion, Manjushri, symbol of transcendent wisdom, and Vajrapani, guardian of spiritual energy. Other, more esoteric figures appear regularly, such as Vajrasattva, associated with purification, or Heruka in union (yabyum) with her consort, an expression of the fusion of knowledge and compassion. Great Vajrayana masters such as the Panchen Lama, or mahasiddhas like Tilopa, Naropa or Kukuripa, are also frequently represented. These figures are joined by wrathful deities such as Mahakala, protector of the Dharma, or Palden Lhamo, Tibet's only female tutelary deity. These richly symbolic compositions are intended to support meditation and transmit spiritual teachings.
