Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006) - Lot 123
Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006) La Mini-Maria Chrome-plated metal and glass cabochon proof Signed and numbered "03006" in intaglio Dimensions: 4.5 x 8 x 4 cm (Scratches from use) Enclosed: BERROCAL book Mini Maria II Collection Mini Multiples 1970 (not collated), black Plexiglas display stand and polystyrene box. NOTICE Miguel Berrocal (1933-2006) is a Spanish sculptor renowned for his metal puzzle sculptures, which combine aesthetics, mathematics and engineering. Close to the modular preoccupations of Max Bill, the anatomical vocabulary of Giacometti and the formal sensuality of Jean Arp, he stands out for his works that can be taken apart, somewhere between art object, jewel and miniature architecture. Trained between Madrid, Paris and Rome, he follows in the footsteps of artists such as François Morellet, Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesús-Rafael Soto, with whom he shares a taste for combinatorics, space and movement. His work, at the crossroads of abstraction and figuration, remains celebrated for its technical precision and sculptural inventiveness.
