NOTICE Jef Aérosol, French artist and leading street art figure, has been a pioneer of stencil art in France since the 1980s. His stencils, produced in black and white with a touch of red (often in the form of a small signature arrow), capture the essence of both iconic and anonymous figures, whom he immortalizes in expressive, intense poses. Jef Aérosol draws inspiration from urban culture, rock, cinema and everyday life, transforming each stencil into a powerful image that speaks directly to the viewer. Working mainly in large format on outdoor walls, he pays homage to icons such as Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and Gandhi, while depicting street scenes and ordinary characters, creating a bridge between the world of celebrities and that of the anonymous. His stencil technique is precise and masterful, with every stroke and shadow helping to capture the emotion of the subject. Close to Blek le Rat, considered one of the first to introduce stenciling to street art, and to Banksy for his direct visual impact and engaged messages, Jef Aérosol has imposed a unique and immediately recognizable style. His stencils, now seen on streets the world over, are prized for their ability to transform public space into an open-air gallery, where art and everyday life meet in a powerful, timeless dialogue.
