NOTICE In this 1978 work, Arum, Bernard Buffet tackles the floral theme with his characteristic style, combining austerity and graphic power. True to his singular approach, Buffet depicts arums with pronounced black outlines, delineating each petal and leaf with almost rigid precision. The bouquet is treated head-on, giving the flowers an imposing, static presence, accentuated by clean lines and a sober color palette, often dominated by shades of white, black and pale green. Here, Buffet succeeds in transforming a simple bouquet of flowers into an object of contemplation, almost sacred. Arums, symbols of purity and elegance, become graphic, stylized forms under his brush, at once poetic and melancholy. The minimalist composition and spare details give the work an impression of solitude and coldness, typical of Buffet's universe, where each element seems charged with a silent gravity. Compared to other Expressionist artists such as Francis Gruber, who explored emotional depth in still lifes, or Jean Jansem, known for his treatment of fragility, Buffet remains unique in his ability to combine simplicity and expressive force. Bouquet de fleurs d'arum, 1978 is a painting that evokes formal, contemplative beauty, while revealing the artist's introspective vision.
