Alix AYMÉ (1894-1989) - Lot 218
Alix AYMÉ (1894-1989) The bather Polychrome and gilded lacquered wood 120 x 24.5 x 2 cm (Wear, holes in the back, formerly those of the hinges) NOTICE Alix Aymé was a central figure in twentieth-century Art Deco and Asian art, having learned the art of lacquer from Joseph Inguimberty (1896-1971), who opened a workshop in 1934 in Indochina, where she also taught and exhibited. A close friend of major figures such as Henri Matisse, she drew on her experiences in Asia, particularly Vietnam and Laos, to develop a unique artistic signature, combining Eastern traditions and Western modernity. Her artistic sensibility is expressed in elegant compositions, often inspired by nature and the spirit of Buddhism, to which she pays homage in her works.
