Born in 1906, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine and distinguished himself by his ability to combine traditional Vietnamese techniques with European modernist influences. His work, which blends realism and poetry, often focuses on landscapes, scenes of rural life and Vietnamese folk culture. Deeply committed to the preservation and enhancement of Vietnamese identity, Trung Thu Mai left his mark on his era with an art imbued with simplicity and depth. His work continues to inspire artists and collectors both in Vietnam and abroad. He died in 1980, leaving an artistic legacy of great importance. Part of this artist's work will be exhibited from October 11, 2024 to March 9, 2025 at the Musée Cernuschi in Paris. This is the first major retrospective in France of three pioneers of modern Vietnamese art, Lê Phô (1907-2001), Mai-Thu (1906-1980) and Vu Cao Dam (1908-2000).
