The condition report is available on request from the following e-mail address: contact@neo-encheres.com PROVENANCE Belgian private collection NOTICE This work by Valerius De Saedeleer, dated around 1934-1935, is inspired by landscapes the artist had already explored in the 1920s, particularly around 1926. Here we find the characteristic influence of Flemish snowy landscapes, with an undeniable comparison to Pieter Brueghel for his poetic treatment of nature and winter scenes. Natural elements, such as bare trees and snow-covered fields, are treated with great sensitivity and meticulousness, conveying the calm and serenity typical of winter landscapes. De Saedeleer plays with a palette of cold tones and soft light that envelops the entire scene, creating a silent, introspective atmosphere. His compositions, structured and uncluttered, testify to his attachment to the Flemish landscape, which he depicts with almost contemplative attention. Fluid lines and meticulous detail reinforce the visual harmony, giving this Landscape in the Snow a timeless quality. Close to artists such as Gustave Van de Woestyne and Frits Van den Berghe, who shared his attachment to symbolism and the Flemish landscape, Valerius De Saedeleer was also inspired by painters such as Emile Claus and Théo van Rysselberghe, although his style is more contemplative and pared-down. His works, particularly his winter landscapes, are highly prized for their ability to capture the serene, poetic essence of Flanders, offering the viewer an intimate, meditative vision of nature.
