Charles KVAPIL (1884-1957) View of a house in Moret-sur-Loing Oil on wood panel signed "KVAPIL" lower left, countersigned and located on the back 19 x 24 cm Framed NOTICE Charles Kvapil, a Belgian painter of Czech origin, is renowned for his vibrant portraits and scenes of life, often inspired by the Parisian world. Settling in France, he was influenced by the École de Paris and developed a figurative style rich in color, where matter and light take center stage. His works are characterized by an expressive touch, where dynamic brushstrokes and a warm palette convey his own energy and spontaneity. In his oil paintings, Kvapil depicts female figures, café scenes and landscapes, with particular attention to bodies and expressions. Female nudes, one of his favorite subjects, are distinguished by full, sensual forms, often captured in natural, intimate attitudes. Her palette of ochre, red and blue tones, combined with a supple modeling technique, gives her figures a lively, tactile presence. Close in sensibility to painters such as Moïse Kisling and Jules Pascin, Kvapil shares with them an expressive, intimate approach to figuration, while remaining committed to poetic realism. Today, his oil paintings are prized for their ability to capture the vitality and elegance of their models, as well as for their warm atmosphere, embodying a classic yet personal vision of figurative painting.
