Born in Marseille, he moved to Paris, where he made friends with artists such as Henri Matisse and Edgar Derain. Charles Camoin distinguished himself by his mastery of color and his ability to capture light, often in landscapes and still lifes, but also in portraits, as in the work we're interested in here.
