Nathalie DU PASQUIER (1957) - Lot 144
Nathalie DU PASQUIER (1957) Abstract composition Mixed media on paper 30 x 21 cm (view) PROVENANCE Parisian collection NOTICE Nathalie Du Pasquier, a French-born artist and designer based in Italy, is an influential figure in contemporary art and design, best known for her role as co-founder of the Memphis group in the 1980s. This collective, led by Ettore Sottsass, redefined the codes of design by introducing bold geometric shapes, colorful patterns and an aesthetic that combined humor and radicalism. Du Pasquier stands out for its avant-garde approach, combining geometric shapes, bright colors and repetitive motifs, which influenced the design and graphic art of its time. After her Memphis period, Nathalie Du Pasquier devoted herself fully to painting, exploring new abstract and graphic compositions. Her works are characterized by a unique aesthetic in which architectural forms, everyday objects and geometric patterns interact, creating vibrant, dynamic compositions. She uses varied, intense color palettes, playing with volume and flatness, to produce works that seem to oscillate between painting and three-dimensional illusion. Close in her approach to design and abstraction to Shiro Kuramata and Michele De Lucchi, Nathalie Du Pasquier continues to influence younger generations of artists and designers. Today, her works are prized for their visual audacity and their ability to transcend the boundaries between art and design, making Nathalie Du Pasquier a pioneer whose impact is still felt in the world of contemporary creation.
