NOTICE
André Masson, surrealist artist and major figure of modern art, is famous for his drawings and inks that explore the unconscious and the dream world. In his ink works, Masson uses an automatic technique, letting his hand follow the impulses of the mind without rational intervention. This process, inspired by Surrealist theories, gives rise to spontaneous, fluid compositions in which abstract forms mingle with imaginary figures and organic motifs.
Masson's inks are characterized by undulating lines and biomorphic forms that evoke inner landscapes or surreal visions. The artist creates a shifting, teeming world, where elements seem to be continually metamorphosing. Her inks reveal a fascination with symbols, mythology and nature, while capturing the energy and expressiveness of surrealist automatism.
Close in his approach to the automatism of Joan Miró and the gesturality of Roberto Matta, André Masson was part of Surrealism while paving the way for Abstract Expressionism. Today, his inks are prized for their ability to embody the unconscious and the imaginary, offering a plunge into a complex, poetic universe where each stroke seems animated by a life of its own.
