Koran, North Africa, Southern Morocco, signed and dated 1892 - Lot 114
Koran, North Africa, Southern Morocco, signed and dated 1892
Manuscript on paper with 16 lines of text per page in cursive Maghribi Arabic in black ink, some characters, sura titles and verse separators in polychrome inks.
The text is framed by a pinkish-red double border line.
Manuscript introduced by a double frontispiece illuminated in polychrome inks: the beginning of the Qur'anic text is preceded by a geometric panel with a rosette heart, and the titles of the first two suras are inscribed in reserve on the colored background of a medallion flanked by panels of sebkas and a diamond-shaped latticework for the Fatiha, and panels of intersecting circles and bands for the Sura al-Baqara.
Within the text, a number of sura titles, such as al-A'raf, Maryam and Ya-Sîn, are inscribed in illuminated cartouches of the same decorative style.
At the end of the manuscript, a colophon inscribed in red ink indicates the name of the copyist Maulah Al-Hassan ben 'Alî ben Muhammad ben 'Abdallah ben Ibrahîm ben 'Abdallah al-Mintâgî al-Sussî and the date of the 7th day of the month of Dhû al-Hijja in the year 1309 H / July 3, 1892.
It surmounts a panel of sebkas illuminated with colored inks.

Binding size: 26 x 21 cm
