NOTICE
Gastone Rinaldi (1920-2006) was a renowned Italian designer of modern furniture, particularly chairs and armchairs. Born in Padua, Rinaldi was one of the pioneers of post-war Italian industrial design. His career was strongly influenced by the family business, RIMA (Rinaldi Metalmeccanica), founded by his father in 1916, which specialized in the manufacture of metal furniture. It was within this company that Gastone Rinaldi developed his skills in furniture design, while innovating with modern industrial techniques.
Rinaldi created furniture pieces that have become icons of Italian design. He is best known for his sleek, functional chairs and armchairs, often made of metal and using modern materials such as molded plastic and leather. Among his most famous creations are the DU10 and DU43 chairs, which reflect his concern for comfort and elegance while incorporating innovative production methods for their time.
One of his most emblematic works is the Sabrina armchair, designed in 1970 and winner of the Compasso d'Oro, a prestigious design award. This chair, characterized by its light metal structure and geometric shapes, testifies to Rinaldi's talent for combining comfort, aesthetics and practicality.
Gastone Rinaldi has collaborated with leading Italian design brands, including Zanotta, with whom he has designed several pieces, consolidating his influence in the contemporary furniture industry. His work is distinguished by a particular attention to ergonomics and the durability of materials, values that have placed him among the great names of modern Italian design, alongside such figures as Gio Ponti, Achille Castiglioni and Marco Zanuso.
Rinaldi's creations, often exhibited in design museums and galleries, are still highly sought-after by collectors and vintage furniture enthusiasts. His innovative approach and timeless aesthetic have made him a key figure in the history of twentieth-century Italian design.
