Jacques BLIN (1920-1995) - Lot 179
Jacques BLIN (1920-1995) Low table Wooden quadripod base resting on four quadrangular legs, top in glazed ceramic tiles engraved with leaves. Signed "J. BLIN" on the lower right tile 40 x 99 x 50 cm (wear, scratches) NOTICE Jacques Blin evolved in an artistic milieu where French ceramics were undergoing a revival, and he often found himself in the company of other talented ceramists and designers who shared a modern vision of the art. Among the artists close to Blin was Georges Jouve, another influential post-war ceramist, known for his sculptural pieces and organic forms. Jouve, like Blin, helped ceramics evolve from a purely utilitarian object into a genuine work of art. Another influential artist was André Borderie, who collaborated with designers and ceramists to create works on the borderline between art and design, a concept close to Blin's tables with their glazed tiles. Borderie and Blin shared a taste for abstraction and the integration of art into everyday objects. Pol Chambost, ceramist and sculptor, is another name worth mentioning. He explored the expressive possibilities of stoneware and enamels, while introducing bold, modernist forms. Like Blin, he combined art and functionality in his creations. Finally, Roger Capron, one of Vallauris' leading ceramists, is another artist with close ties to Blin's world. Capron, like Blin, excelled in the production of decorative ceramics, paying particular attention to the design and modernity of his creations. All these artists, in their own way, contributed to the reinvention of French ceramics in the 20th century, combining traditional craftsmanship with modernism.
