NOTICE
Dominique Issermann (b. 1947) is a French photographer of international renown, renowned for her elegant, uncluttered style, mainly in black and white. Her intimate portraits, fashion photography and collaborations with figures from film, music and the arts have made her a leading figure in contemporary photography. Her ability to capture natural light and subtle emotions, while creating minimalist compositions, places her among the great photographers of her time.
Issermann began her career in the 1970s, collaborating with major fashion houses such as Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Dior, as well as prestigious magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar. His sensitive, understated approach echoes that of some of his contemporaries, including the following fashion and portrait photographers:
Sarah Moon, another leading figure in fashion photography, is close to Dominique Issermann in her poetic, dreamlike approach, often in black and white, favoring a soft, timeless aesthetic.
Peter Lindbergh, famous for his black-and-white photographs and minimalist approach, like Issermann captures the natural beauty and authenticity of his subjects, refusing excessive retouching and overly sophisticated staging.
Helmut Newton, though more provocative in style, shares Issermann's interest in elegance, contrasting light and shadow, and highlighting bodies in striking compositions.
Paolo Roversi, also close to Issermann in his use of natural light and his work on intimacy, explores ethereal, subtle atmospheres, with a particular sensitivity to textures and the fragility of the human form.
Herb Ritts, with his refined aesthetic and emblematic portraits of celebrities, joins Issermann in his quest for sober, timeless beauty, where emotion takes precedence over artifice.
In addition to fashion photography, Dominique Issermann has made a name for herself with her portraits of celebrities such as Leonard Cohen, Isabelle Adjani and Catherine Deneuve, demonstrating a rare mastery of the art of portraiture, in the manner of Richard Avedon, who, although more direct in his compositions, shares with her a quest for emotional truth in his models.
Dominique Issermann's work, close to these great photographers, is distinguished by a singular intimacy, a minimalist approach and a refusal of artifice. Her influence on contemporary photography and fashion remains immense, and her work is now exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide.
