Jean-Marc VACHTER (1962 - ) - Lot 161
Jean-Marc VACHTER (1962 - ) Circle, 2013 Mixed media including dark brown lacquer and yellow gold leaf gilding on circular wood panel Diameter: 116 cm (Minor loss of material) PROVENANCE A certificate of authenticity drawn up by the artist will be issued to the buyer. NOTICE Jean-Marc Vachter is part of a network of contemporary artists who, like him, explore notions of matter, light and abstraction. Among them is Pierre Soulages, famous for his "black-light" works in which matter and the reflection of light play a central role. Vachter shares Soulages' fascination with the texture and depth of the pictorial surface. Another artist close to Vachter is Gérard Richter, who also explores the boundary between abstraction and figuration in works where color and material create a complex interplay. Richter and Vachter are both preoccupied with the idea of memory and time, although their approaches differ. Olivier Debré, whose lyrical abstraction emphasizes color and emotion, can also be seen as an influence or parallel to Vachter. Debré's works, often vast and immersive, echo Vachter's research into the relationship between space, light and perception. Finally, Anselm Kiefer, known for his monumental compositions and rich textures, is similar to Vachter in his use of raw materials and his reflections on memory and history. Both share an approach in which matter is invested with a symbolic and emotional charge, creating works that are both poetic and introspective. These artists, though evolving in a variety of styles and techniques, share with Jean-Marc Vachter a profound research into the materiality of art and its power of emotional and philosophical suggestion.
