NOTICE
Antonio Seguí (1934-2022) was a renowned Argentine artist, widely recognized for his highly colorful, satirical works marked by a unique style combining painting, drawing and lithography. Born in Córdoba, Argentina, Seguí moved to Paris in the 1960s, where he developed an international career while retaining strong links with his homeland. His art, often tinged with humor and social criticism, is deeply influenced by the political and cultural context of Latin America, but also explores universal themes such as urbanization, isolation and the absurdity of modern life.
Seguí's works are distinguished by the recurrent presence of anonymous, expressive figures, often male figures in suits, wandering through urban landscapes saturated with symbolism. These figures, sometimes reduced to silhouettes or stereotypes, evoke the anonymous mass of the contemporary city and question the dynamics of power, consumption and movement in modern society. Inspired by artists such as Fernand Léger, Pablo Picasso and pop art, Seguí uses fragmented, narrative compositions to create complex scenes, rich in detail and visual allusion.
Antonio Seguí subtly criticizes the failings of contemporary society through a style that is both playful and satirical. His works, which combine a vibrant palette and dynamic lines, reflect a biting irony, oscillating between humor and cynicism. Exploring themes such as urban alienation, political hypocrisy and the absurdities of everyday life, Seguí has created a deeply engaged body of work, rooted in a reflection on the human condition.
Throughout his career, Antonio Seguí has worked in a variety of media, from painting to printmaking to sculpture. Today, his works can be found in numerous public and private collections around the world, and he is considered one of the greatest Argentine artists of the 20th century.
