NOTICE
Augustin Hanicotte (1870-1957) was a French painter and draughtsman born in Béthune. He moved to Montmartre in Paris in 1890 and became a pupil of Fernand Cormon, working with artists such as Jules Adler, Émile Wéry and Henri Matisse. In 1895 and 1896, he traveled to Brittany with Matisse.
He then settled in Volendam, Netherlands, where he rented an artist's studio near the Spaander Hotel and met local artists. His works were exhibited in North America and at the 1914 World's Fair for the inauguration of the Panama Canal. Later, he would meet other artists of the French avant-garde, such as Aristide Maillol and Henri Matisse, and end his life in the south of France.
