Condition report available on request: contact@neo-encheres.com NOTICE Jean-Louis Grégoire (1840-1890) was a French sculptor specializing in bronze and realistic busts. A student of François Jouffroy at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Grégoire distinguished himself by his academic approach, combining fine detail and classical rigor. He contributed to numerous public commissions, regularly taking part in the Salons of the day, where he forged a solid reputation. His works, often inspired by historical or allegorical figures, are characterized by delicate realism and marked expressivity. Among Grégoire's contemporaries was Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, whose dynamic, emotional sculptures shared a common concern for realism. Jules Dalou, another major sculptor of the period, stands out for his attention to detail and the complexity of the human form, like Grégoire. Antonin Mercié, known for his works in bronze, cultivates a style combining classicism and realism, close to that of Grégoire, particularly in the expressiveness of his figures. These artists, though different in their approaches, share a common aesthetic marked by refined naturalism.
