Robert MICHEAU-VERNEZ (1907-1989) for HENRIOT QUIMPER Couple from Fouesnant and their baby Polychrome glazed earthenware proof Signed on the terrace R. MICHEAU VERNEZ Signed Henriot QUIMPER under the base France, circa 1941 38 x 30 x 16 cm NOTICE Robert Micheau-Vernez (1907-1989) was a French painter and ceramist who made a major contribution to the development of Henriot Quimper, one of Brittany's most famous earthenware factories. Renowned for his colorful, modern style, he breathed new life into the production of this historic company. In the post-war period, Micheau-Vernez worked with Henriot Quimper, where he distinguished himself by creating earthenware that broke with the classical figurative tradition, while remaining deeply rooted in Breton culture. His work is marked by stylized representations of Breton characters, often in traditional costume, as well as scenes from everyday life in Brittany. The use of vivid colors, simplified forms and a keen sense of composition give his creations a dimension that is both modern and timeless. Like other artists such as Mathurin Méheut, who also left an important mark on Breton art, Micheau-Vernez was able to fuse tradition and modernity, bringing Quimper earthenware into a new artistic dynamic. His pieces, whether statuettes, decorative dishes or vases, stand out for their vitality and uniqueness, making him a key artist in Breton earthenware. Even today, Robert Micheau-Vernez's creations for Henriot Quimper are highly prized by collectors and art enthusiasts, testifying to the successful alliance between Breton folk art and contemporary aesthetics.
