Louis XV period 96 x 64 x 51.5 cm and 97 x 51.5 x 64 cm (Worn and damaged caning, seat and belt separated on one) NOTICE Jean AVISSE, an 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaker, is renowned for the exceptional quality of his furniture and his characteristic Rococo style. Active during the reign of Louis XV, he was part of the great tradition of master cabinetmakers of the period, alongside such figures as Jean-François Oeben and Jacques Dubois. His works, often finely inlaid and adorned with gilded bronzes, bear witness to unequalled craftsmanship and a refined taste for elegant, curved forms. Like André-Charles Boulle and Bernard II Van Risamburgh, Jean AVISSE left his mark on his time through his ability to combine functionality and aesthetics, thus contributing to the influence of French furniture art. His creations, sought after by collectors and lovers of antique furniture, continue to embody the luxury and sophistication of 18th-century decorative art.
