The year in which this work was produced, 1957, was the year in which Vera Pagava was shortlisted for the Prix de la Critique. BIOGRAPHY Vera Pagava was born in Georgia in 1907 and grew up in Montrouge, near Paris. She trained at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs and joined André Lhote's studio. She began to earn her living by designing decorative fabrics for furniture. Along the way, she rubbed shoulders with Roger Brissière, Viera Da Silva and Nicolas de Stael, among others. She belongs to the Second School of Paris. Like Niko Pirosmani and Lado Goudiachvili, she is one of the most sought-after Georgian artists on the art market.
