SAYED HAIDER RAZA (1922-2016) - Lot 2
SAYED HAIDER RAZA (1922-2016) Village Oil on canvas 60 x 90 cm Provenance Acquired from the Lara Vincy gallery by Monsieur and Madame Boudet and then by descent from Madame Vailllant. We would like to thank Mr. Soufiane Bensabra for confirming the authenticity of this work, referenced in the archives of Mr. Sayed Haider Raza under number RF 1084. A certificate of authenticity from The Raza Foundation - Gorbio dated April 27, 2023 will be given to the buyer. Monsieur René Maurice Boudet, Madame Vaillant's father, was a shipowner by profession. Born on May 8, 1915 in Beaussault (Seine-Inférieure), Mr. Boudet led a remarkable career in the maritime field. After studying at the Lycée Corneille in Rouen, he entered the École navale and rose through the ranks of the French navy, attaining the rank of Capitaine de corvette. However, in 1946, he left the navy to pursue other professional opportunities. From 1946 to 1956, Mr. Boudet was Managing Director of Gérance immobilière and Société de crédit alexandrin in Egypt. He subsequently founded and served as Chairman and CEO of Oceangas in Italy and Gazocéan in France from 1957 to 1978. He was also founder and Chairman and CEO of Interocéangas in Chile from 1960 to 1978, and of Navigas in Spain from 1961 to 1978. Mr. Boudet co-founded Gazmarine with Gaz de France and was a director of this company from 1963 to 1971. He was also Chairman of Technigaz from 1963 to 1978, and Chairman of Geogas Entreprise in Switzerland since 1979. To sum up his career and achievements, Mr. Boudet has received several honors, including Officier de la Légion d'honneur, Commandeur de l'ordre national du Mérite, Croix de guerre 39-45 and Chevalier du Mérite. The painting in question was unfortunately damaged by fire in 2000 at the Boudet family residence in La Garde-Fresnet. Fortunately, it was saved by a skilled restorer who had to remove a small charred section, including the signature on the right-hand side of the work. Today, we present a photo of the painting in its original condition. We would like to stress that this deterioration in no way affects the authenticity or exceptional quality of this work. Mr and Mrs Boudet, shipowners by profession, were great lovers of art and Raza. Over the years, they acquired at least ten paintings by this renowned artist, two of which featured in the Raza exhibition at Pompidou in February. One of these paintings, "Terre Rouge" from 1968, 150 x 150 cm, oil on canvas, was sold in 2007 and we have the invoice. In addition, one of Raza's paintings from the collection appears in the book "Sh Raza" published by Editions de la Différence, on page 81.
