French school of the 19th century Portrait of Comte Pottier de Pommeroy in the uniform of the King's bodyguard, wearing the decoration of the Lily. Oil on canvas with annotations on the back "Comte Pottier de Pommeroy Garde du corps de Monsieur 1823 puis du roi 1824". Red wax stamps and annotation on the stretcher "Cte Potier de Pommeroy". 24 x 20 cm Gilded wood frame (cracks, missing materials, stains) Biography : Auguste Potier de Pommeroy (1797-1860) Bodyguard to Louis XVIII, he left the service in 1825 and settled in Percey-le-Pautel, where he became mayor. A general councillor, he was deputy for Haute-Marne from 1843 to 1848, sitting in the majority supporting the July Monarchy.
